My Story
I am a public health professional whose day-to-day work is designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions and policies to create health equity, with a focus on maternal and reproductive health. I am a fierce advocate for public health research and practice that is community-centered, structurally competent, and decolonized: focused on addressing the structures and systems that create and perpetuate health inequities, not individual beliefs and behaviors.
I have an MPH degree in Health & Social Behavior from UC Berkeley and over seven years of experience as an project/program manager, consultant, and curriculum designer. At Cook Ross Inc., I worked with a wide array of clients to develop and implement learning experiences addressing bias and creating cultural humility in the workplace and in the healthcare setting. I also served as the product manager for CultureVision, a first-of-its-kind platform to increase the capacity of clinicians to provide culturally responsive patient care. My dedication to teaching, learning, and mutual growth extends into every space I occupy; I strive to live into the words of Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, “We have the right to climb, and the responsibility to life others up as we rise.”
I am also profoundly shaped—personally and professionally—by the places I’ve lived: I grew up in rural northeastern Connecticut (occupied land of the Nipmuc people) and suburban Arizona (Pima), and as an adult, I’ve lived in Madurai, India, Washington, DC (Nacotchtank/Anacostan), and Oakland, CA (Chochenyo Ohlone), which I’ve called home for the last four years along with my partner Mischa. What I love most is lingering with the people I love over a home-cooked meal, exploring new places near and far, fishing, and making ceramics.
